Painting progress April

Hi there! Remember this blog?
Yeah, I’ve been off the radar for a while.. Long time readers will know, it just happens and I’m not even apologizing anymore, there’s no point πŸ˜›
So what’s happened? Well, let’s look at the list:

– I’m graduating and writing a thesis. Not alone, but it’s a lot of work and it takes all my dedication and concentration, 40 hours a week. I’m exhausted at the end of the day, and some weekends, I’ve been too tired to even watch Outlander. I have made a change though, I started taking better care of myself:
– I started with Pilates, which takes some time at the end of my day, but it’s awesome. I’m getting stronger! πŸ™‚ I have been practising yoga for a little longer and I have to say, once you get over the whole.. what should I call it.. vague stuff, you know, it’s really relaxing and my mind is at peace after an evening session. So, I realized that taking serious care of my body, with more exersize and allowing myself to relax, is really important and I feel better. This has one downside: it takes time, meaning less time for other projects.
– I have been ill for two weeks. I was really ‘out’ for one week, but I had this infection called Sinusitis, really annoying..
– My best friend and I went to the first edition of Dutch Comic Con! It was so cool! That took a lot of time to prepare, we were cosplayers and I did our makeup. There is a video on its way! It has to wait though because…
– Last week my laptop died. I am now working on a computer that does not have the ability of performing properly with CS6. My thesis is not in danger because we save everything on Dropbox (THANK HEAVEN) and there’s a backup of my harddrive, but right now I can’t reach anything that used to be on that laptop and the whole situation sucks.
– Other than that, I have found a job while I’m not even finished with my thesis, so that’s fantastic!!! Right now, I’m searching for a house in Groningen, so I can live closer to the job. This whole travelling student has also taken it’s toll on me and I am done with all that. Plus, Groningen is simply awesome and it’s about time I start living my own life there πŸ˜€

Aaaaaand the sun has been shining a lot over the past 3 weeks! πŸ˜€ I can now paint my wall until about 20.00 p.m. which is great, because, I get home around 18.00, dinner, clean up, and then I can either feel like painting or feel like working out, or both, or whatever, I actually have the choice to go ahead and paint! After 18.00!

The changes are the rocks and flower things.
I painted the waterfall rocks and shadows, so the waterfall is now finished. I decided that the flowers need to be a whole lot brighter and happier so I used white over them, and that will make the colours pop out more. I roughly sketched out all the bushes with the white.
From now on, it’s all about the green zone. Which is a lot. But I’m getting there!

I am not sure when the Comic Con post will be ready, not very soon I’m afraid. I do hope you enjoy the update on my artwork πŸ™‚

Painting progress : Januari / Februari

Over the past few weeks I’ve had some opportunities to paint, since there has been some sunshine again! πŸ™‚

IMG_3287

So, what has changed?
The waterfall, I went right over everything that was there with blue and grey, to create shadows and background colours, and went over it with a big fat layer of white. The stones in the waterfall itself were also defined.
Then today and yesterday, the stones in the river on the right were up! These are finished.

I might paint more tomorrow, but the weather forecast is not looking good, so, I don’t know yet. All I know is that next up are the stones around the waterfall. And then… we’ll see!

I hope you will all have a wonderful weekend, I’m going to go to the city and celebrate Burns Night. I have never heard of it before and I have no idea what to expect, but there was a Highlander dresscode, so that will be fun πŸ™‚

Painting progress: Christmas break

Happy new year!

The last few days of my break I’ve been painting again. Finally!
I feel like it has been too long, but now the sun is shining and I just had to grab my brushes and get to it.

IMG_3088

What has changed:
The tree trunks of the three most visible trees on the left side. The one on the right was finished, as I said previously, but now the others have gotten more definition and I’d say those trees are finished. Though who knows πŸ™‚
The path, I smeared some leftover brown on the start of the path, so it’s darker..
The grass, I filled in the empty space between Β the trunks, filled in some other white gaps and lighter areas so it’s slightly greener.
The grey dense forest behind the big tree on the left, I filled in those areas as well.
So, it was mainly about adding definition to the trees and their immediate surrounding areas.

High on my to-do list is the waterfall. I was going to try it today, but I have to leave in half an hour and I just don’t have the guts for it yet.

Other than that, it’s looking pretty great! One thing I have definitely learned this year is: Don’t be afraid to use darker colours. Mixing with black is perfectly fine!

Other news: I’m going to paint a wall for one of my best friends, I’ve been sketching/getting my hands covered in paint this morning and we’re getting somewhere.. I will show you more of that soon! I promise, that one won’t be such a long term project πŸ˜›

Painting progress – first half of september

As the month is not nearly over yet, I figured it shouldn’t be a september update, because I hope I’ll get some more work done next week!

What I did last weekend was this:

IMG_2728

The leaves have gotten their branches! I think it looks neat, really falling into place. One thing that really starts to bother me is the waterfall, I just have NO idea how to do that.. I guess I’m insecure about it, I feel like it’s the first stroke of paint all over again. I just need to take that step and get over it, you know? But I’ve been postphoning it for so long, really, it’s horrible. I kind of lost track of what should be up next in the painting, before getting to the waterfall adventure. I suppose it’s the tree trunks πŸ™‚

Other things that I did were: finding new knitting&crocheting patterns, doing mom’s nails, working on the embroidery for my costume that is still not finished, play guitar, oh! I discovered this AH-mazing show a while ago, or actually, my friend did (Thank you Loes!) and we watched it together and I love it. It’s called Outlander, if you like historical fiction, go for it my friend! Thank us later πŸ˜‰
And I can’t wait for the new Downton Abbey season to start today, so I can watch that episode tomorrow, as I just found out I can not watch the ITV player on their website. The bastards didn’t buy it when I gave them a random postcode that turned out to be Buckingham Palace, so it was ‘unavailable in my location’. Any other fans of other shows perhaps, who too live outside the UK or the US, facing this problem like, every week during the new season? Let’s go get those pirate hats…

And that’s it for today, I hope you enjoyed your weekend, or for the American continents, keep doing that while it lasts πŸ˜‰ I really want to continue my WILD series soon, so stay tuned for that.

Wall painting progress

Welcome to my new followers!!

IMG_1688

The sun was shining the past two days, so that meant painting time! I have a week off now, which means I actually have some catching up to do and ofcourse, there’s an assignment (or three) waiting for me when the sun is gone..

Anyways, I did some more base colours, this time it’s the water, some rocks and the light that reflects from the house in the water.
Obviously this isn’t finished or near perfect yet, but this is only the base. I’ll go over it with tons of layers, just like I did with the roof of the house.

I think the water looks great, but the lights are terrible. Too dark, plus it kind of mixed with blue, making it slightly green… Not good. But as I said, we’ll go over it.

The wall is starting to come alive now, it’s not as white anymore, though I still have a lot of work to do!

Wall painting progress

Welcome to my new followers! I love how the number keeps growing and I’m very grateful for all the positive and supportive reactions!

Remember my wall painting? Well, there are some additions (:

IMG_1464

I knew this was going to be a long,Β longΒ term project, but honestly, it’s februari! That means it’s may in.. 3 months! Oops

Anyway, whenever I have a lot of free time and good weather (read: LIGHT) I get to paint. Which is not very often during winter. Or during a specialisation at school. But it’s ok, I’m happy and I’m not exactly pushing myself. This whole thing is something I should do when I really feel like doing it. And, I think that now I can start with the trees, they won’t take as long as the detailed things. And other background things with forest won’t be as time consuming. I hope.
Oh, what the heck if it is, it’s not like I’ll be punished πŸ˜›

IMG_1450

So, as you can see, I did the bridge, which I think turned out really good.
Also, the grass base colour, but I think this is a little too bright? But I suppose I’ll go over it. This happens when I don’t have proper daylight anymore.
And.. two weeks ago? Yes, something like that, I did some basic shading for the big trees and the basic path colour.

IMG_1470

For now, I think it looks really weird. But you know, I’ll go over it with more colours. It’s normal. I thought the cottage was somewhat weird at first, and look at it now.. Also, the bridge was a large blot of weird brown, but then I put some life in it, you know? Anyone with experience?

Like I said, now I’ll do the trees, after that, I think the water..
And we’ll see where it goes!

The most important part of this journey is that I like what I’m doing. I love it. I love painting. And whether that is on a canvas, a wall or on a human body, I love it. I hope you do too, and I hope you’d like to continue the journey with me.

Wall painting progress

Welcome to my new followers!

Here’s an update on something I’d like to call a long term project. It started about half a year ago, with the transformation of my room. People who’ve been around since the start have probably seen the change of the bright apple green to the dark green walls. I believe I did mention this once.. Β I absolutely love how my entire plan is working out!

The walls are now dark green and white. The green is on the wall with my door in it (also known as my photoshoot/filming area), and there’s another part on another wall, where my bed is standing. Above my bed is a section under an angle, which is white, and then there’s two more walls and they are white as well. Now, the diagonal part is where this post is about.

I’m making a painting on that wall. It’s large. Which means that it’ll take a lot of time. I started in may or something with drawing the outlines. I found this amazing piece by Thomas Kinkade, I love it and I’m making a painting that is a lot like his, only I changed a few things. Ofcourse, I’m not capable of painting things exactly like he did it. But this is going to be my own. It’s the Snow White painting he made, only I’m leaving the animals and Snow White out, I’m changing the castle and mine will become more of a long retangle.

That means the painting will be about the magical forest with the little cottage, and the water, and the flowers. I love this scenery, it’s like a fairytale that I can dream about, and, well, it’s above my bed, so that’s great (:

So, after drawing for a few weeks, I left the painting for what it was, I was scared to get started in paint. It’s hard to start and load up your brush. But you just have to do it! I’ve spent quite a few afternoons staring at the wall, thinking: where should I start? But really, you just have to do it. Just go for it. As this is actually the first time that I’m really painting like this, I had no idea. Sure, I painted on paper before, like school assignments in high school, and sure, I loved drawing on paper, sometimes I used paint as well. But to be honest, I have 1 canvas, and I drew on it, but that drawing isn’t even finished yet. And that’s the end of my painting history..

Somewhere in august or september I finally took my Gryffindor courage and started with the background. I thought it looked really really weird, but, I suppose it’ll turn out fine. I have to paint over it, so, sure it’s going to be fine.

Then two weeks ago I finally started again. With the cottage. Because that’s the fun part, and I just wanted to do the fun part. This is what I’ve been working on for two weekends now and it’s finished! (: So, the next step is the grass. I worked on that yesterday, you know, giving it a basic colour so I could fill in the details, but it was becoming to dark outside. That caused me to mix colours that turned out too bright.. I suppose I’ll just see what I can do next weekend.

I’m really proud of the cottage, I think it looks really good, even though it’s not at all like Kinkade’s. According to the visible white, there’s a lot of work to be done, but like I said, this is a long term project. I gave myself about a year, so that means I have untill may. It really is something I want to do at moments that I feel like painting, and I can’t do it without proper daylight.

I know this is a lot in total, and I also know that the cottage is only a tiny part of the whole painting, but this feels like a milestone, which is why I decided to share this now.
