Bodypainting jam session

After exam stressed from two weeks ago, I was able to paint again last weekend. I loved it. I missed it. And the weird thing is, I always think about what I am going to do, I always plan my character, I always recreated something that I like from YouTube, but not this time. I just picked a palette and painted whatever came up. It felt really really good 😊

The Mehron Paradise paints Pastels palette was one I hadn’t used very often yet. I bought it in Klagenfurt in the summer and since then, I didn’t really do much that I love.. So I opened it, looked at the colours and picked 5 I wanted to use.

I also did some details with a silver paint from DiamondFX.

I did look for some inspiration and found it with Lana Chromium. I love her style and have been following her artwork online for a long time. Two weeks ago she posted about a silver armour bodypaint on Instagram and if you look closely, you can see that that’s what I started with. But after the first lines, I just continued on my own and it was so much fun ❤

Enjoy the photos and check out the video I made here!

Catching up: The World Bodypainting Festival

Hi there! If you’re still following this blog, it’s been a while, but hey, I wrote ages ago that I would no longer apologize. So, where to start?

This happened in the summer, in July 2017. I travelled to Klagenfurt, Austria, and was there for the WB Academy and the festival.

It was the best thing I could have done. I loved it so much, and I wish I had gone before, because it was exactly what I needed.
Everybody I’ve met there, I love these people, the fellow artists who do this as their life, their profession! And on such a level that I would never be able to compare to, but it’s so inspiring and educational. I’ve learned so much from all of them, and the atmosphere is just so warm and welcoming. A definite recommendation to other starting artists in bodypaint and special effects!

Day 1 consisted of me arriving and exploring the town a bit, and in the afternoon I was able to go to the registration desk where I met the organisation, including Alex. I also made my first friends here, at the desk, this were Gina and Cara. We went to a meetup in a bar at night, for all the first arrivals, where we also met Catríona.

Also, I just sat down with really great people, Alex Hanssen, Rudy Campos, Yvonne Zonnenberg and Gert Leeftink to name a few 🙂

Day 2 was the first day of the WB Academy. My first workshop was a two day workshop with Alex Hanssen on EVA foam for cosplay costumes. Very interesting, Alex is great and I really really want to do more with cosplay once I’m done with my master degree!

Day 3 was a continuation of the EVA foam workshop.

Day 4 would have been another two day workshop, but, I was the only person to apply for that. They made it a private workshop for just 1 day instead, but I couldn’t do that on day 4, because my model was still on her way to get to Austria 🙂 So, the organisation allowed me to pick another 1 day workshop for day 4, which became Bodypainting basics with Riina Laine. This too, was quite an experience for me, it was very good to learn some of the basic understanding and even as someone who’s painted before, it’s just a really good workshop. I had a lot of fun, and during the week I met so many people, I was able to get myself a last minute model too! Mario, thanks again 🙂

Day 5 was the private workshop with Yolanda Bartram in Special Effects, making a fantasy creature! This was amazing! We worked with prefabricated prosthetics of foam latex, and I learned how to blend them a lot better, working with professional materials and all. It was awesome! Also, then we painted a costume on. Femke, thankyou so much for coming all the way to Austria with me, you were the best I could possibly hope for ❤ It was so much fun, and basically it was just me and Yolanda jamming together. I loved it.
The photo of Femke standing near a statue with a little girl even made it into the booklet!!

Day 6 was the first day of the festival. I had this day to myself, to walk around and buy materials from all the vendors. I got a set of stencils, new paints from DiamondFX, some new stuff from Mehron, kabuki brushes… And I had a lot of fun!

Day 7 was special, Gina and I were invited to help out with the contest as assistants for Lucas Bures and his wife, Helena Skuhrovcová, from the Czech Republic. It was very cool to be in the tent and be able to help out! They were both competing for the World category of Airbrush bodypaint. They allowed us to be part of the team, to be part of the festival, and it was really helpful to discover what it was like, participating as an artist. I went to the judges with Helena as well, and so I was able to see the full process. Thanks again, Helena and Lucas, for having us!

Day 8 was also very special, as I was asked by Rudy Campos (yes, the man from Skin Wars) to be his assistent. Thanks Rudy!!!! Rudy was an artist for the World category of Special Effects. It was so cool, being part of the artwork we created. Rudy also taught me a lot that day, and it was just really awesome working with him and Anastasia.

We didn’t win the awards, but the experience is something so much better. I have this whole ‘family’ of bodypainters now, it’s a group of people that I don’t need to explain myself to, people who do the same thing but even crazier. It’s so fantastic to finally have gone here. I really wanted to go again in 2018, but, some other news, I’m going to move. My boyfriend and I will move together to another apartment in May, and we will likely be out of money in July 😀

All I can say now is, thankyou to everyone who was part of this incredible journey. We will meet again!

Love,

-M.

Face charts through Instagram

Last week I discovered this guy’s instagram and I love his charts!

Today I spontaniously decided to go paint one on my face. Excellent way of spending me-time! 🙂

The light is terrible, I know, but it’s nighttime here in the Netherlands.. I tried taking some pictures with my phone, which was not a great idea because the quality of them is not good in low light. Then I got the EOS out and I had to look up in the camera and into the lights on the ceiling to get a proper image of what the makeup actually looks like.

I’m not too happy about the poses, but I can’t have everything, especially on a last-minute occasion like tonight.

Enjoy!

For those of you that don’t know my blog yet: This is my very first photoshoot. The first one that is actually something. I did makeup on one shoot before (see portfolio) but this is my first time modelling. It was so cool!

So how did this happen?
I met Wouter a couple of weeks ago through other friends, and well, I talked about this blog and my passion for makeup, he looked at the blog and agreed on collaborating soon 🙂

Around New Years he sent me a link to a photography competition and asked if I had any awesome ideas.
I did this makeup a year ago for the first time, it was very rough and it desperately needed a redo+normal photos instead of webcam photos, but I hadn’t really gotten to that point yet. Which is why I hadn’t even posted this on here.
This was the perfect oppertunity! I sent Wouter the webcam picture and he was happy, so, I sketched and changed a lot of things, actually, but, yes, the end result is very satisfying 😀

Wouter built up his gear in my living room and we were having a lot of fun shooting this. It’s very interesting to see all the different ways you can change a photo. Lights are so important. I also understand that with just my DSLR, I will not be able to create masterpieces like these photos on my own.
The good news is, next time I want to go paint myself on a weekend, I’ll call Wouter to see if he has time!

This is what my living room looked like

In short, I’m superhappy and this definitely calls for another shoot sometime soon. I would appreciate it if you could check out Wouter’s website and support him. Checking out the contest would also be pretty cool.
The most important part was having fun with it though. That is the purpose of the competition, to go Get your Gear out, go shoot, go have fun! And for that, I’m really grateful.

Thankyou for all your positive reactions 🙂

Driving home for Christmas

IMG_6107

It was a bright and early morning when I left the city. This picture is taken on the road from the station to the highway and I loved it.

I go back to my parents’ pretty often, though for the holidays I brought my camera. That way I’m now able to present the latest version of my wall painting 🙂
To be honest I don’t even recall what I did most recently, I suppose it’s the darker green colours in the front.

Most importantly, what I want to show you today is this:

IMG_6121

Remember when my laptop died? Did you read my complaints about my computer not being able to handle photoshop and other programs that require a beast type system because it’s too old?

Well, I saved for a new system and decided to assemble it myself, since it’s cheaper and a lot of fun! I built my own computer!
The picture shows my happiness after the first round of testing if I installed things correctly. I did, since the message on the screen was exactly what I wanted to see. That was earlier today 🙂
Tomorrow I’m expecting the last part to arrive, which is my optical drive, that wasn’t neccesary for the first part of assembling, I can just pop that in tomorrow and it’ll be fine. Unfortunately, tomorrow I’ll be gone for a shopping trip (that’s just too bad 😉 ) so I’m going to install my Windows on Tuesday, along with all the other basic things.
For those of you that are interested, I can make a seperate post dedicated to the new computer system. If you’d like to see that, let me know in the comments.

All of this is very good news, because with this new baby, I will be back to video editing within a few days! Hooray!

Oh, and ofcourse, we celebrated Christmas for three days with the family here.
I hope you all had a great time, even though it’s such a forced social event.

OH!! Did you all see the new Star Wars movie yet? GO SEE IT!
I went as Leia! 🙂

I can totally film and produce a hair tutorial for this thing in a week or so! 😀
