Face charts through Instagram

Last week I discovered this guy’s instagram and I love his charts!

Today I spontaniously decided to go paint one on my face. Excellent way of spending me-time! 🙂

The light is terrible, I know, but it’s nighttime here in the Netherlands.. I tried taking some pictures with my phone, which was not a great idea because the quality of them is not good in low light. Then I got the EOS out and I had to look up in the camera and into the lights on the ceiling to get a proper image of what the makeup actually looks like.

I’m not too happy about the poses, but I can’t have everything, especially on a last-minute occasion like tonight.

Enjoy!

For those of you that don’t know my blog yet: This is my very first photoshoot. The first one that is actually something. I did makeup on one shoot before (see portfolio) but this is my first time modelling. It was so cool!

So how did this happen?
I met Wouter a couple of weeks ago through other friends, and well, I talked about this blog and my passion for makeup, he looked at the blog and agreed on collaborating soon 🙂

Around New Years he sent me a link to a photography competition and asked if I had any awesome ideas.
I did this makeup a year ago for the first time, it was very rough and it desperately needed a redo+normal photos instead of webcam photos, but I hadn’t really gotten to that point yet. Which is why I hadn’t even posted this on here.
This was the perfect oppertunity! I sent Wouter the webcam picture and he was happy, so, I sketched and changed a lot of things, actually, but, yes, the end result is very satisfying 😀

Wouter built up his gear in my living room and we were having a lot of fun shooting this. It’s very interesting to see all the different ways you can change a photo. Lights are so important. I also understand that with just my DSLR, I will not be able to create masterpieces like these photos on my own.
The good news is, next time I want to go paint myself on a weekend, I’ll call Wouter to see if he has time!

This is what my living room looked like

In short, I’m superhappy and this definitely calls for another shoot sometime soon. I would appreciate it if you could check out Wouter’s website and support him. Checking out the contest would also be pretty cool.
The most important part was having fun with it though. That is the purpose of the competition, to go Get your Gear out, go shoot, go have fun! And for that, I’m really grateful.

Thankyou for all your positive reactions 🙂

This week!

So, it’s been a busy week, and I could make seperate posts of everything, but I prefer doing this all at once, so here we go!

Last sunday was my Carnival makeup job number 1, for Roseline.  I met her for the Halloween makeup job I did last year and she called saturday afternoon. We settled with a neutral version of the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, the version done by Alexys from MadeUlook, because she wasn’t really in for crazy facepaint. It was a big challenge for me, to not go all the way with the crazy, but we made it and Roseline was satisfied 🙂

IMG_1

Monday and Tuesday were the other makeup jobs for Carnival, the girls wanted a Sugarskull, this particular one by Lindsay. I practised on myself first, so they were able to give feedback.

IMG_3198 IMG_3206

The girls wanted to go all the way with pink, glitter and everything couldn’t be crazy enough, so that was good. I really liked doing dramatic, theatrical, extravagant makeup that says BOOM in your face, I was trying to find ways to make the colours pop more and more, something I never really do at home. I completely changed the products that I used, but I think it turned out pretty good 🙂
The girls actually won the Best Dressed contest of Melody, so YAY 😀

The last few days of the week I finished a piece of furniture, it’s a gift for one of my best friends, she and her boyfriend are now living together. It’s supposed to be something to put plants on, like herbs. They really liked it 🙂
This is the crafting project I have been working on for a few weeks, and because of this guy here, I wasn’t painting when the sun was shining. But it was fun! A challenge, but it was great!

Other news:
The video thing with the spaghetti bridge is over, not going to happen anymore. I’m sad, but it’s ok, it was kind of something I expected, I had to contact all these people I didn’t really know and make sure they replied to a producer, but not everyone did, so, due to the law system in the US with rights and whatever, they can’t use the clip.

The Elven Costume continues to be fantastic, a collegue is borrowing it now for her daughter, which is lovely, I’m not really using it anymore. I should try to keep Ireth alive though! Let me know if you have suggestions?

I also have a new video coming up, though it’s not finished, ofcourse… I have the rough video editing done, now it needs a voiceover and music, so the whole sound editing is yet to be done, sometime soon. I saw the weather for tomorrow is fantastic, so tomorrow I should paint my wall!

Conclusion: lots of things that I knew were coming, are now finished. This was the best Carnival I ever had, due to all the makeup! Still, there are a lot of projects that have yet to be finished 🙂

Trying heatless curls : My results

Yesterday, my friend send me this link of Kayley Melissa.

I thought: That is really cool, let’s see what it does!
My hair is quite a bit longer than Kayley’s hair is nowadays, so I was curious whether it would work on me as well.

Since I started growing my layers out and going all Rapunzel, I haven’t touched my heating methods for curls. You might remember that time with the papillotes, for Capitol Citizen, well, that was the last time I curled my hair…
I really take care of my hair, try to minimize the damage with all those things you can find online, which made my hair strong, thick and long. The only thing I don’t do is use certain advertised products, I don’t believe in that.
Fun fact: I measured my hair last week, it was 85 cm from the crown of my head.

Anyways, this is what happened:

IMG_3241

First, you get to look like some evil queen from Disney, which felt awesome!
It was hard for me to wrap all of my hair. After the first round of wrapping, I move to the side, just like you would with a curling iron, and then for the next section of hair, I went over the previous wrapped hair, otherwise it wouldn’t fit on the halo.
The wrapping itself is super easy though!

IMG_3244

I remember from previous curling methods, that when you wrap your hair in the same place and not move aside, the hair closest to the centre (of the iron, papillote, maybe the t-shirt?) would curl best and on the outside, it would just come out straight. That was something I was most curious about when trying this method.

IMG_3247

So, it came out like I thought it would, pretty curls at the bottom, the upper parts where straight.

Also, after half an hour when I got to my friend, the curls were dying already. Usually I need to use tons of hairspray to set the curls and keep them alive for a while. The hair is just.. too heavy 😛

Did you try this method before? What did you think?

Sleek review: iDivine Vintage Romance palette

Here’s the other palette I bought at Beau makeup stores in Groningen!
The weather today is… grey, unfortunately not the sunshine we had during my other review, though I think these photos give a good impression on what the Vintage Romance palette is about.

IMG_3225

It’s a lovely palette with purple and golden shades. Almost all of them are shimmers, except for the one brown colour on the top right. The iDivine palettes seem to always include light and dark colours in the same palette, so you will always be able to mix and match with whatever you want to accomplish, whether it’s a neutral look or smokey eyes, this palette definitely has everything you need, no matter what your eye, hair or skin colour is.

The colours that really caught my attention were the lightest gold (top row, second on the left) and the brightest purple (lower row, third on the left), so that’s why I bought it. The bronze colours on the top row remind me of the bronze and gold colours I have in the Storm palette. I think this whole palette would really match with Storm.

IMG_3216

Pigmentation is exactly what we expect from Sleek. It’s good, it’s pretty, it does what we want it to do, which is shine. Some colours are more shimmery than others, but you’ll be able to tell that from seeing the pans. It’s kind of obvious that there’s one matte, some soft shimmers and then some real shimmers. They do need a primer though, especially with hooded and folded eyelids, I discovered that this palette needs it more than the Sunset palette. I guess that’s what you get with shimmers.

What I love about this palette is that the ones that looked really dark are actually OK when I see them on my skin, but that didn’t mean they were not pigmented enough, which is surprising. Normally, I don’t go there, I don’t do dark smokey eyes and I avoid using black eyeshadows for daily, neutral looks. This black, as you can see, is not black black, but it has a grey-ish tint to it. That’s not very positive, I know, but hey, I’ve got Bulletproof for real harsh black, so I’m actually happy to have some softer darks. It’s good that that specific collection is expanding 🙂

IMG_3234

Would I recommend this palette? Most definitely, yes. Enjoy!

Sleek review: iDivine Sunset palette

There’s this little cosmetics shop in Groningen called Beau, it’s not entirely new but I discovered it a few weeks ago. The best part, they sell brands like Sleek and the Balm!! ❤
For all of you fellow people in and around Groningen, it’s practically next to the UB!

So, obviously I bought new makeup during my first visit there last week. I got myself two new eyeshadow palettes, here’s my first review of Sunset, one that has been on my list since the discovery of Sleek altogether 🙂 (they didn’t sell them at Superdrug last year)

IMG_3138

It’s hardly neccesary to explain: I love this palette. Look at the swatches. It’s just as good as my older palette, Storm. It has strong pigmentation, the colours are lovely, it’s cheap, no downsides, what else can I say?
One thing: you DO need a primer, especially when you have hooded lids or any kind of folded crease like me. The shimmery ones tend to get sticky and yuck in the crease, if you know what I mean… But I always use and recommend primer so that shouldn’t be an issue.

The look above is something that Sleek suggests on the back of the carton box. I really like it, you can go all out with the brights or keep it natural like this. My favorite so far: the bright orange! It’s the reason I bought this palette 🙂
