Halloween 2016

By now it’s December, so I’m running way behind on posting this. But, those of you who follow my other social media like instarainbow, are able to see all the snaps I take with a phone 🙂

Halloween started early this year! I was planning with our party hostess in the beginning of September, I think.. She told me the theme ideas she had, and it became an ‘Enchanted Forest’. It’s a beautiful theme, very broad, you can do basically anything fantasy, I really enjoyed it! 😀

It was also very early in the season that I settled on a general idea of what I would want to do with this theme. This year we really wanted to succeed on having a squad of people that actually kept their costume in line with the theme and we did! But I wanted something that would be better than last year.
I woke up in the middle of the night and started sketching, so the sketch below in the album is that original idea. Once it was set on paper I was focused on finding out details on how to accomplish things,  the hair structure for example. But this was the plan from the beginning and I didn’t wander astray!

So what is it that I am? I was inspired by the ‘children of the forest’ from the Game of Thrones TV show. I wanted something like that, but with wings, elf ears, and a less I-was-literally-attached-to-a-tree kind of look. More of a magical look. A tad more fancy. But on the other hand, I didn’t want to be a fairy, I was going to be an evil, depressed version when it came to costume. I did obviously have a party and smiled and whatever, but the costume was intended as Evil Fairy.
Conclusion: I was a Forest Child, along with the rest of the girls 🙂

My friends and boyfriend are also shown in the album. The girls were dressed as a Fawn, another Forest Child That Walked Out Of The Forest With Moss, there’s my friend I did makeup for who’s sort of my Evil Fairy Sister, and my boyfriend was Robin Hood with scratches that I made.

The day itself was so much fun. My entire hair/makeup took over 6 hours. I love this. This is commitment!
And there was my friend, who was able to help out a little with painting my back, we had a really lovely day, then we all did makeup together at my house and we had pizza, and it was a really good day 🙂 Then we went to the party and I was tired AF because I’d been up since early and just exhausted from the whole day haha!

But it was a good Halloween year. This is what I live for.

For the occasion, I had dyed my hair (!!) with a colouring shampoo. It’s not permanent, it washes out after three washes or so. It was fine! My hair is not damaged and it’s back to normal now 🙂 Hairstyle: Sansa Stark.

I used scarwax to create a broader bridge of the nose and a strong browline. These edges were not blended perfectly like the professionals do it, but for me, this was my best attempt so far. Gotta start somewhere. Oh, and I created gills on my arms. I don’t really know why, I wasn’t a fish. It just was cool and went with the look.

Paint: Mehron, obviously. Yes, I was wearing contacts. I also used some powder products, most of those would have been Sugarpill, Sleek or BHcosmetics.

Costume: The top was a simple top that I shredded. The skirt was made by myself. The wings were made from scratch by myself using wire and kitchen wrap (iron it so it melts) and everything with leaves is also just crafted with leaves that I got at some shop.

If I missed anything, if you have any questions, let me know! Enjoy!

Face charts through Instagram

Last week I discovered this guy’s instagram and I love his charts!

Today I spontaniously decided to go paint one on my face. Excellent way of spending me-time! 🙂

The light is terrible, I know, but it’s nighttime here in the Netherlands.. I tried taking some pictures with my phone, which was not a great idea because the quality of them is not good in low light. Then I got the EOS out and I had to look up in the camera and into the lights on the ceiling to get a proper image of what the makeup actually looks like.

I’m not too happy about the poses, but I can’t have everything, especially on a last-minute occasion like tonight.

Enjoy!

For those of you that don’t know my blog yet: This is my very first photoshoot. The first one that is actually something. I did makeup on one shoot before (see portfolio) but this is my first time modelling. It was so cool!

So how did this happen?
I met Wouter a couple of weeks ago through other friends, and well, I talked about this blog and my passion for makeup, he looked at the blog and agreed on collaborating soon 🙂

Around New Years he sent me a link to a photography competition and asked if I had any awesome ideas.
I did this makeup a year ago for the first time, it was very rough and it desperately needed a redo+normal photos instead of webcam photos, but I hadn’t really gotten to that point yet. Which is why I hadn’t even posted this on here.
This was the perfect oppertunity! I sent Wouter the webcam picture and he was happy, so, I sketched and changed a lot of things, actually, but, yes, the end result is very satisfying 😀

Wouter built up his gear in my living room and we were having a lot of fun shooting this. It’s very interesting to see all the different ways you can change a photo. Lights are so important. I also understand that with just my DSLR, I will not be able to create masterpieces like these photos on my own.
The good news is, next time I want to go paint myself on a weekend, I’ll call Wouter to see if he has time!

This is what my living room looked like

In short, I’m superhappy and this definitely calls for another shoot sometime soon. I would appreciate it if you could check out Wouter’s website and support him. Checking out the contest would also be pretty cool.
The most important part was having fun with it though. That is the purpose of the competition, to go Get your Gear out, go shoot, go have fun! And for that, I’m really grateful.

Thankyou for all your positive reactions 🙂

Halloween 2015: the party guests makeup

Today I’d like to show you some of the photos that were taken during the party last weekend! These are photos of most of the people I painted, either in progress or as a result. Some people also added more paint, more blood, more whatever, because everyone was supercreative and enthousiastic! I really enjoyed myself here and I am looking forward to doing more makeup now, as I am finding a balance between working life and freetime 🙂

For today, this is it. The footage of Nebula and my own makeup in progress has yet to be edited. My computer here is not very good at that, because it’s very old, and as you know, my laptop which I used to edit with, has gone to computerheaven hell. I’m working on things though!

13 nights until Halloween

Practising the makeup for a Team Evil member. This needs contouring, more blood and a better job on the black on the eyelids.

Making prosthetic ‘sticker’ wounds for the party attendees that don’t zombiefy themselves. I plan to paint them and add blood when placing them onto someone, not in advance.

This week!

So, it’s been a busy week, and I could make seperate posts of everything, but I prefer doing this all at once, so here we go!

Last sunday was my Carnival makeup job number 1, for Roseline.  I met her for the Halloween makeup job I did last year and she called saturday afternoon. We settled with a neutral version of the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, the version done by Alexys from MadeUlook, because she wasn’t really in for crazy facepaint. It was a big challenge for me, to not go all the way with the crazy, but we made it and Roseline was satisfied 🙂

Monday and Tuesday were the other makeup jobs for Carnival, the girls wanted a Sugarskull, this particular one by Lindsay. I practised on myself first, so they were able to give feedback.

IMG_3198 IMG_3206

The girls wanted to go all the way with pink, glitter and everything couldn’t be crazy enough, so that was good. I really liked doing dramatic, theatrical, extravagant makeup that says BOOM in your face, I was trying to find ways to make the colours pop more and more, something I never really do at home. I completely changed the products that I used, but I think it turned out pretty good 🙂
The girls actually won the Best Dressed contest of Melody, so YAY 😀

The last few days of the week I finished a piece of furniture, it’s a gift for one of my best friends, she and her boyfriend are now living together. It’s supposed to be something to put plants on, like herbs. They really liked it 🙂
This is the crafting project I have been working on for a few weeks, and because of this guy here, I wasn’t painting when the sun was shining. But it was fun! A challenge, but it was great!

Other news:
The video thing with the spaghetti bridge is over, not going to happen anymore. I’m sad, but it’s ok, it was kind of something I expected, I had to contact all these people I didn’t really know and make sure they replied to a producer, but not everyone did, so, due to the law system in the US with rights and whatever, they can’t use the clip.

The Elven Costume continues to be fantastic, a collegue is borrowing it now for her daughter, which is lovely, I’m not really using it anymore. I should try to keep Ireth alive though! Let me know if you have suggestions?

I also have a new video coming up, though it’s not finished, ofcourse… I have the rough video editing done, now it needs a voiceover and music, so the whole sound editing is yet to be done, sometime soon. I saw the weather for tomorrow is fantastic, so tomorrow I should paint my wall!

Conclusion: lots of things that I knew were coming, are now finished. This was the best Carnival I ever had, due to all the makeup! Still, there are a lot of projects that have yet to be finished 🙂

Throwback time! Tiger handart

Welcome to the new followers! I want you to know that I appreciate every one of you!

Yesterday I found some things on my computer, and I realized I never posted this!

It’s a handart paint job, inspired by Klaire de Lys’ tutorial. She got the idea from Guido Daniele, who is an amazing handart painter.

IMGP0218

This was done a long time ago, the saving date I have here is 28 August 2012… It must have been around the same time as I did the parrot handart.

For this paintjob I used waterbased facepaints from Bruynzeel.

IMGP0219

I really like doing these handart paintings, I want to do some again soon.. Any suggestions/requests?

Love,

-M.
