Halloween 2016

By now it’s December, so I’m running way behind on posting this. But, those of you who follow my other social media like instarainbow, are able to see all the snaps I take with a phone πŸ™‚

Halloween started early this year! I was planning with our party hostess in the beginning of September, I think.. She told me the theme ideas she had, and it became an ‘Enchanted Forest’. It’s a beautiful theme, very broad, you can do basically anything fantasy, I really enjoyed it! πŸ˜€

It was also very early in the season that I settled on a general idea of what I would want to do with this theme. This year we really wanted to succeed on having a squad of people that actually kept their costume in line with the theme and we did! But I wanted something that would be better than last year.
I woke up in the middle of the night and started sketching, so the sketch below in the album is that original idea. Once it was set on paper I was focused on finding out details on how to accomplish things, Β the hair structure for example. But this was the plan from the beginning and I didn’t wander astray!

So what is it that I am? I was inspired by the ‘children of the forest’ from the Game of Thrones TV show. I wanted something like that, but with wings, elf ears, and a less I-was-literally-attached-to-a-tree kind of look. More of a magical look. A tad more fancy. But on the other hand, I didn’t want to be a fairy, I was going to be an evil, depressed version when it came to costume. I did obviously have a party and smiled and whatever, but the costume was intended as Evil Fairy.
Conclusion: I was a Forest Child, along with the rest of the girls πŸ™‚

My friends and boyfriend are also shown in the album. The girls were dressed as a Fawn, another Forest Child That Walked Out Of The Forest With Moss, there’s my friend I did makeup for who’s sort of my Evil Fairy Sister, and my boyfriend was Robin Hood with scratches that I made.

The day itself was so much fun. My entire hair/makeup took over 6 hours. I love this. This is commitment!
And there was my friend, who was able to help out a little with painting my back, we had a really lovely day, then we all did makeup together at my house and we had pizza, and it was a really good day πŸ™‚ Then we went to the party and I was tired AF because I’d been up since early and just exhausted from the whole day haha!

But it was a good Halloween year. This is what I live for.

For the occasion, I had dyed my hair (!!) with a colouring shampoo. It’s not permanent, it washes out after three washes or so. It was fine! My hair is not damaged and it’s back to normal now πŸ™‚ Hairstyle: Sansa Stark.

I used scarwax to create a broader bridge of the nose and a strong browline. These edges were not blended perfectly like the professionals do it, but for me, this was my best attempt so far. Gotta start somewhere. Oh, and I created gills on my arms. I don’t really know why, I wasn’t a fish. It just was cool and went with the look.

Paint: Mehron, obviously. Yes, I was wearing contacts. I also used some powder products, most of those would have been Sugarpill, Sleek or BHcosmetics.

Costume: The top was a simple top that I shredded. The skirt was made by myself. The wings were made from scratch by myself using wire and kitchen wrap (iron it so it melts) and everything with leaves is also just crafted with leaves that I got at some shop.

If I missed anything, if you have any questions, let me know! Enjoy!

Love,

-M.

For those of you that don’t know my blog yet: This is my very first photoshoot. The first one that is actually something.Β I did makeup on one shoot before (see portfolio) but this is my first time modelling. It was so cool!

So how did this happen?
I met Wouter a couple of weeks ago through other friends, and well, I talked about this blog and my passion for makeup, he looked at the blog and agreed on collaborating soon πŸ™‚

Around New Years he sent me a link to a photography competition and asked if I had any awesome ideas.
I did this makeup a yearΒ ago for the first time, it was very rough and it desperately needed a redo+normal photos instead of webcam photos, but I hadn’t really gotten to that point yet. Which is why I hadn’t even posted this on here.
This was the perfect oppertunity! I sent Wouter the webcam picture and he was happy, so, I sketched and changed a lot of things, actually, but, yes, the end result is very satisfying πŸ˜€

Wouter built up his gear in my living room and we were having a lot of fun shooting this. It’s very interesting to see all the different ways you can change a photo. Lights are so important. I also understand that with just my DSLR, I will not be able to create masterpieces like these photos on my own.
The good news is, next time I want to go paint myself on a weekend, I’ll call Wouter to see if he has time!

This is what my living room looked like

In short, I’m superhappy and this definitely calls for another shoot sometime soon. I would appreciate it if you could check out Wouter’s website and support him. Checking out the contest would also be pretty cool.
The most important part was having fun with it though. That is the purpose of the competition, to go Get your Gear out, go shoot, go have fun! And for that, I’m really grateful.

Thankyou for all your positive reactions πŸ™‚

Trying heatless curls : My results

Yesterday, my friend send me this link of Kayley Melissa.

I thought: That is really cool, let’s see what it does!
My hair is quite a bit longer than Kayley’s hair is nowadays, so I was curious whether it would work on me as well.

Since I started growing my layers out and going all Rapunzel, I haven’t touched my heating methods for curls. You might remember that time with the papillotes, for Capitol Citizen, well, that was the last time I curled my hair…
I really take care of my hair, try to minimize the damage with all those things you can find online, which made my hair strong, thick and long. The only thing I don’t do is use certain advertised products, I don’t believe in that.
Fun fact: I measured my hair last week, it was 85 cm from the crown of my head.

Anyways, this is what happened:

IMG_3241

First, you get to look like some evil queen from Disney, which felt awesome!
It was hard for me to wrap all of my hair. After the first round of wrapping, I move to the side, just like you would with a curling iron, and then for the next section of hair, I went over the previous wrapped hair, otherwise it wouldn’t fit on the halo.
The wrapping itself is super easy though!

IMG_3244

I remember from previous curling methods, that when you wrap your hair in the same place and not move aside, the hair closest to the centre (of the iron, papillote, maybe the t-shirt?) would curl best and on the outside, it would just come out straight. That was something I was most curious about when trying this method.

IMG_3247

So, it came out like I thought it would, pretty curls at the bottom, the upper parts where straight.

Also, after half an hour when I got to my friend, the curls were dying already. Usually I need to use tons of hairspray to set the curls and keep them alive for a while. The hair is just.. too heavy πŸ˜›

Did you try this method before? What did you think?

The Hobbit: the Final Adventure of the 21st Century Elf Ireth

Yesterday, I went to see the last installment of the Hobbit trilogy. I won’t give away too many spoilers, but I can tell you: it was good. Despite some differences with the book (which, were already obvious in the previous films), I really enjoyed it!

And did you see the credits art! I loved them..

Bravo to all the people that worked on this film. I know there are a lot of you. My deepest respect to all of you πŸ™‚

It was finally time to wear my complete costume and become my alter ego Ireth again. For pictures of the entire costume, click here.
Below you will see the proces of my transformation πŸ˜‰

IMG_2988

I started with the ears. You can see how I made my ears on a previous blog post, but the best explanation for the entire thing is this video by Klaire de Lys, I made mine exactly the same way, but her video shows every step perfectly.

IMG_2996

My hair is naturally this long and thick, I did not use extensions.

I tied a section from above, then I made a section from my ear up to the tied section, on both sides of my head. I split this new section into two: the lower half for the locks in front of my ear, the other half for a regular braid towards the back of my head. Then these two braids come together with the tied hair from above. After that I made a fishtail braid with the tied hair and some extra hair from the back of my head. I pulled it loose like Kayley Melissa always does, especially in the top of the braid.

IMG_2997

I found this really old necklace that I wore to my first prom, and I pinned it below the start of the small braids with bobby pins.

For makeup: I used a light beige shimmer eyeshadow on the lid, then I used some brown mascara. For the lips, I went with a simple layer of Purol to saturate them, and I used BB cream on my face, with a light powder over it. Since my face was too warm, I didn’t add any contour or blush, that is way to much for elves… Oh, and I did my brows with that HD brows set I accidentally got at IMATS πŸ™‚

IMG_2998

And that’s it! That’s how you become an elf!

It was quite an adventure to go to the cinema. I drove this time, and first, I had to make sure my cloak was ‘on board’ πŸ™‚

While we got out of the car in the parking lot, it was freezing cold! But, I did everything for art, so I left my coat in the car and went like this, in my cape, to the cinema. While we were walking in, I was the object of stares. There were many people in a long waiting line, so, that was fun!

I just love doing this. Though some people can be rude!Β Not that I mind, I mean, well, there was an actual elf, the closest to reality most of them had ever seen. And it might help promote Cosplay and open people’s minds and hearts.

Again, if you are going to watch it, I ask you, watch the credits! The people who worked on this film deserve your 5 more minutes of attention!!!
Enjoy it, I definitely did πŸ™‚

Other very important news! Saturday I went to Eindhoven with one of my best friends, she had a photoshoot there. She asked me to come along as her MUA, which was GREAT! I loved it! I got to do my friends’ makeup and learn from a wonderful photographer! This will also give me the opportunity to add beautiful photos to my portfolio as an artist, so it’s really great. This was my first time at a photoshoot, so, yeah, progress!! Results will be uploaded as soon as I get them πŸ™‚

Love,

Catching Fire: Capitol look

Welcome to my new followers!!!

3

Last month I went to the cinema with my friend to see the new Hunger Games movie. It was amazing! I love these movies, really, I do. I think if Jennifer won an oscar for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, she should definitely win one for her role as Katniss. The film really did the story justice, it was good! And for my male readers out there, I imagine this is the kind of movie even guys would go to (:

Obviously I had to do something out of the ordinary with this whole thing, so I went to the cinema as a Capitol person, inspired by Effie Trinket. I bet she’d be honoured. The idea is that the world we live in could be compared to the Capitol, so as viewers of the Hunger Games movies, we represent the Capitol citizens which is why I chose to go as a Citizen, not as one of the other leads like Katniss herself.

2

The hair: yes it is all my own hair. I didn’t use a wig. No it’s not dead or gone now, it’s back to normal (:

The makeup was pretty easy and not that much work for this look, it was done entirely with regular makeup and I made the lashes myself. Check it out elsewhere on my blog (:

I filmed the whole thing, the video is under construction and will be up very soon.
